“Havzi Nela” high school in Kukës, another educational institution transformed into contemporary infrastructure

“Havzi Nela” high school,  the largest gymnasium in the north-eastern Albanian municipality of Kukes, is being transformed from scratch into a modern educational facility to provide contemporary habitability and education standards for around 1100 students and 90 teachers personnel under a government-funded project on requalification of this educational institution that, over the years, has been high-achieving and competitive, producing excellent performing students, who have been  turned out successful in national and international competitions, as well as winners of first prizes in important innovations, sports and economy competitions.

Prime Minister Edi Rama, on a tour to the town of Kukes today, visited the newly-built school venues that have been expanded into more spacious premises and best equipped with didactic means and modern school labs to offer high quality and comfortable habitability conditions and contemporary EU education standards for the students and the pedagogical staff.

“The facility serves both as school and as community centre. Last year, Kukes Municipality responded to the Ministry of Education and Sports call for application through school reconstruction projects and it was selected winner of a very ambitious project. Number of beneficiaries here is significantly higher than the high school students and teachers themselves as the new school will also serve as a community centre. Measures are being taken to best equip the school, its labs, library and all other facilities. All afterschool activities are best implemented, including arts and crafts program, sports training, etc” Education Minister Evis Kushi said, adding that Kukes Municipality has been also selected to benefit more funding for construction of more educational facilities this year.

“Havzi Nela” high school will open its doors to students by September, with its new spaces, classrooms, labs, library, gym and sports grounds expected to meet best European standards.
